  • On Friday 14th July, the cook Nikoletta Theodoridi, together with Maresme Circular, will share several recipes to avoid food waste

On the 14th July, Maresme Circular will offer a cookery workshop to promote food reuse in Mataró.

The activity, free and open to everyone, will take place in the e-Ágora space in Plaça de Cuba at 5.30 pm. Seating is limited and access will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pancakes with seasonal fruit, a cold soup, a vegetable salad and a homemade soft drink are some of the recipes that the cook Nikoletta Theodoridi will show the participants how to make, step by step. After each recipe, there will be a tasting of each of the preparations.

In Catalonia, each person wastes 35kg of perfectly good food, of which 58% is wasted in the home. Making recipes for reusing food is one of the many things we can do to avoid wastage. Planning meals and making a list of what we need, taking into account everything we already have at home before going shopping, arranging food in the fridge and larder, rotating those items that should be eaten first to the front of the fridge, or freezing food before it spoils, are other steps we can take to consume food responsibly.

Reducing waste by 26.4%

This cookery workshop is part of a series of actions to reduce food waste that Maresme Circular and Rezero are carrying out during 2023 as part of the Maresme Waste Prevention Plan. The plan, drawn up in 2022, aims to reduce waste generation in the county by 26.4% by 2027, compared to 2010.
