  • On Saturday 9th December, the cook Montse Sahún will share various recipes to avoid food waste

On Saturday 9th December, Maresme Circular, the brand of the Maresme Waste Consortium, will offer a cookery workshop to promote food reuse in Canet de Mar.

The activity, which is free and open to all, will take place in the Plaça del Mercat at 11 am. No prior registration is required.

Stew gyozas, a concentrated stock made from leftover vegetables, and an orange dessert are some of the recipes that the cook Montse Sahún will teach the assistants how to make, step by step. After each recipe, there will be a tasting of each of the dishes.

In Catalonia, each person wastes 35kg of perfectly good food every year, of which 58% is wasted in the home. Making recipes for reusing food is one of the many things we can do to avoid wastage. Planning meals and making a list of what we need, taking into account everything we already have at home before going shopping, arranging food in the fridge and larder, rotating those items that should be eaten first to the front of the fridge, or freezing food before it spoils, are other steps we can take to consume food responsibly.

Reducing waste by 26.4%

This cookery workshop is part of a series of actions to reduce food waste that Maresme Circular and Rezero are carrying out during 2023 as part of the Maresme Waste Prevention Plan. The plan, drawn up in 2022, aims to reduce waste generation in the county by 26.4% by 2027, compared to 2010.
