The event will be held on Saturday 27th October from 10am-2pm in the ‘superblock’ in Sant Antoni, Barcelona and is organised by ONU-Habitat and the Barcelona City Council

The Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment will play its part in the celebration of World Cities Day with its Ludobrossa activity, this Saturday 27th October in the superblock in San Antonio, Barcelona. The event is organised by ONU-Habitat and the Barcelona City Council. This year, the theme of the celebration is ‘Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities’, a call to action to rethink how cities can become better places to protect and enhance people’s lives without leaving anyone behind.

The Ludobrossa, an activity which the Consortium offers free to schools and Town Hall members, is just one of the various activities aimed at children, the objective being that, through play, they will think about a more sustainable world. The goal of the event is to interest people in actions that can improve the city, as well as raise awareness of the individual and collective impact we can have. The different workshops will introduce ideas that can be applied to day-to-day life, allowing us to join forces to create cities which are more inclusive, healthier, resilient and sustainable, one of the 17 Development Goals of the United Nations.

The activities will encourage families to learn about waste reduction, the relationship between insects and plants, the construction of the city, noise pollution, energy production, the balance in a city between economy, sustainability and happiness, the water cycle, future energies and their efficiency, global warming, and green spaces.
The United Nations established the 31st October as World Cities Day. The objective is to promote the interest of the international community in global urbanisation, encourage cooperation among countries by finding opportunities and setting urbanisation goals, as well as contributing to sustainable urban development all over the world. ONU-Habitat is the United Nations agency in charge of promoting more sustainable cities and towns.
