On the 8th and 9th of October the Mataró Tecnocampus will hold another edition of the benchmark Congress on waste management under the slogan “Transforming proximity to change globality”

The 2018 Recuwaste Congress, which will be held in Mataró on the 8th and 9th of October, will have around 30 speakers and 70 participating entities, under the slogan “Transforming proximity to change globality”. The Congress has become a benchmark in the sector at both national and international level, and this year will be closely following the global evolution, in the area of resource management, of the new paradigm of the circular economy and the demand for continual improvement from local entities in the management of public services.

The programme will involve four thematic areas. “The resource economy”, with talks, round tables and documentary screenings from the International Festival of the Environment, will deal with important questions such as resources, waste and the markets. “Municipalities and waste management” will concentrate in three workshops on emerging resources, effective communication and awareness campaigns, and textile waste.

A third area, “World Cities”, will focus on successful cases of waste management in cities such as Vancouver, Capannori or Roubaix.
In addition an “Innovation Corner” will be set up during the Congress to examine new initiatives and projects to improve resource management, and there will be an exhibition of innovative machinery for use by urban public services. Within the framework of Recuwaste 2018, the Maresme Circular Park, an 18,000m2 space dedicated to the circular economy and located in Mataró, will also be presented.

Call for papers with a cash prize
This year, Recuwaste again launches its ‘Call for papers’ to publicize the most innovative public or private proposals in the area of waste management and prevention. The best proposals will be on display in the poster exhibition zone, and among all the participants, the Programme Committee will choose three, who will explain their initiative in a ten-minute presentation in the Innovation Corner during the Congress. In addition, all the presented proposals will compete for the Alfonso Maíllo Award, which includes a cash prize of €1000. The winner will be chosen after a vote by all those attending the Congress. Proposals can be sent through the official website and the closing date is the 3rd September.

From Recuwatt to Recuwaste
One of the novelties this year is the change of the name of the Congress from Recuwatt to Recuwaste. With this name change, the Congress opens its doors to resource economics and also, from a central perspective, to the local world and to innovation, with an eminently international focus, so the attendees can hear about relevant experiences from around the world first-hand,share knowledge and learn from others. Once again, Mataró confirms itself as an undisputed reference point in the world of waste management. The Recuwaste Congress is organised by the Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment, the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Catalan Government, the Catalan Waste Agency, and Barcelona Provincial Council.
