The companies form part of the EIT RawMaterials Accelerator programme and are interested in both the Integral Centre for Waste Recovery and the Maresme Circular Park

On Wednesday 6th March a group of 12 start-ups from the EIT RawMaterials Accelerator programme visited the installations of the Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment. A total of 30 people of different European nationalities visited the plant and participated in a workshop. This was within the framework of the second phase of their company project, dealing with the validation of their innovation at the location of the client.

The EIT RawMaterials Accelerator programme is in its first year of development and acts as an accelerator for different start-ups in the field of innovation and raw materials. This is essential to ensure a transition towards green energy technologies and guarantee sustainable growth and consumption, as well as guaranteeing access to clean and efficient consumer technologies, considering that Europe depends a lot on the importation of raw materials to ensure the global competitiveness of its manufacturing industries. For this reason it is necessary to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable society which is resource efficient.

It is because of this that the activity of the Integral Centre for Waste Recovery and the new Maresme Circular Park project has drawn the attention of the acceleration programme; they are considered to be an interesting focus point for learning for this group of start-ups.

EIT RawMaterials aims to develop raw materials to make them one of Europe’s greatest strengths, allowing sustainable competitiveness in the European minerals, metals and materials sector by driving innovation, education and the entrepreneurial spirit. The participants in the visit and workshop hope to be ready to make their first sales in the market in a period of 1 to 2 years.
