The TubVerd has greater heat production thanks to a new high-pressure steam extraction system from the Maresme Integrated Centre for Waste Recovery, which has been set up by Aigües de Mataró, the public water supplier. This new system is designed to obtain up to 30 Tn/h of steam, equivalent to 22.5 MW of thermal power.

This new heat source, which comes from the energy recovery of waste that cannot be recycled, will make it possible to provide service to new customers connected to the TubVerd network, especially in areas where extensions have been carried out in recent years, such as the El Cros industrial estate and Avinguda de Lluís Companys and surrounding areas. It also anticipates the future arrival of the service in the Iveco-Pegaso sector.

The extension reinforces the commitment of the city of Mataró, through its facilities and infrastructures, to improving the environment with sustainable energy sources, locally sourced and based on the principles of the circular economy: part of the energy contained in the waste generated by the city is returned to it in the form of heat.

TubVerd is an urban network of heat and cold distribution through the circulation of water from Aigües de Mataró. The most important sources of heat for TubVerd are the steam from the incineration of waste from the residual fraction treated by the Maresme Integrated Centre for Waste Recovery and the biogas extracted in the process of anaerobic digestion of sludge from the Mataró Wastewater Treatment Plant.
