The Maresme Waste Consortium is part of the Circular and Green Economy Working Group of the Cities and Towns towards Sustainability Network. A space for the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and of training and support for the transition towards a more environmentally sustainable economic model.

Organized by the City Hall’s Head of Environment, Enric Coll, with the help of the consultancy firms Inèdit and Fundació Fòrum Ambiental, this working space aims to be a meeting place for discussion and debate, on a Catalan-wide scale, to promote circularity practices. The Maresme Waste Consortium has participated from the beginning with great interest, playing an active role and sharing relevant experience and knowledge on circularity gained through the work carried out at the plant.

Last Friday 12th February, the first meeting of the year of the Cycle of Workshops on Circular Economy in the Local World was held, organized by the Working Group. These meetings are organized around different themes, such as the collaborative economy, servitization, circular public procurement or industrial symbiosis. In these, the different topics are addressed, for the moment virtually, to try to accompany the local world in the training and identification of opportunities around these issues. In this way the Working Group confirms itself as a space to share experiences and examples of good practices.

More than twenty local authorities are participating in the Circular and Green Economy Working Group, including Mataró City Hall, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and Vilafranca del Penedès City Hall. Based on Sustainable Development Goal 9 as a reference (building resilient infrastructures, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation), the Group has carried out several strategic actions over the last two years, including the Meetings of medium-sized cities and towns to improve selective collection, the Let’s Clean Up Europe 2020 presentation seminar and several technical training days and seminars.
