The president of the Consortium and Mayor of Matar\u00f3, David Bote, has taken part in the RELAGRES International Seminar in Santiago de Chile, together with the director of the Consortium, Carles Salesa<\/h3>\n

Before an auditorium full of delegates, the president of the Consortium and Mayor of Matar\u00f3, David Bote, has spoken about the future challenges of our waste management. Bote unveiled his strategic vision of waste management in the Maresme, explaining the historical perspective, the technological evolution that has been happening in the last 15 years at the Matar\u00f3 plant, and the actual solution that is being applied to the problem of waste. All of this hand in hand with good environmental education, especially focused on primary and secondary schools, participation in fairs and congresses, and the development of a communication plan which highlights the activities and results of the Consortium. The president of the Consortium also explained the inter-territorial collaboration agreement between the Maresme and Vall\u00e8s Oriental signed in 2006 on the treatment of organic and residual waste, which is producing such good results.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, Bote explained the challenges that we face in the future, the strategic plan 2016-2020, the relationship between the Consortium and the Town Halls that work with it, the plans for improvement and investments, economic management, and finally, social responsibility in waste management.<\/span><\/p>\n

On challenges for the future, David Bote explained the projects for the improvement of separation and processing of bulky waste, and the increase in recovery of wood, metal and glass. He also spoke of the need to improve communication and dissemination to secure a better and more prestigious position for the Consortium brand, as well as an increase in the number of school visits to the Consortium plant, and deepening commitment to recycling by organizing activities in the local area. He also talked about the employment of workers from specific groups who have difficulty joining the labour force, and of the expansion of Recuwatt, the congress on recycling and energy, created by the Consortium of the Maresme, and which this year celebrates its fourth edition.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his presentation, David Bote closed with the following conclusions:\u00a0
1.- Waste management gives local government the opportunity to improve the planet and the life of their citizens.\u00a0
2.- Environmental crises usually mark turning points and the obligation to take complex decisions.\u00a0
3.- In any case, a strategic vision is necessary to obtain successful models.\u00a0
4.- This commitment must encompass different areas: technological, environmental, territorial, educational, social, etc.
5.- The Maresme began aiming for zero landfill and waste recovery many years ago.\u00a0
6.- We have been successful and have also made errors, but always within the framework of a solid commitment geared to the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
