The 5th International Congress of the Latin American Network of Solid Waste Managers RELAGRES, which is being held at the Matar\u00f3 Tecnocampus on the 12th and 13th June, has confirmed the presence of more than 70 Latin American delegates, from the public and private sector, as well as the sphere of government institutions.<\/p>\n
Among the participating authorities, noteworthy attendees are: \u00c1ngel Medina, advisor to the president of the government of the Dominican Republic; Alfredo Mart\u00ednez, mayor of Santo Domingo; Felipe Delp Aguilar, mayor of Granja (Chile); Santiago Rebolledo, mayor of La Cisterna (Chile); Sergio Echeverr\u00eda, mayor of San Joaqu\u00edn (Chile); Jorge Emilio Rey, governor of Cundinamarca (Colombia); Didier Alberto Tavera, governor of Santander (Colombia); Julio Miguel Silva, Urban Economics manager in Bogot\u00e1 (Colombia); Juan Canessa, mayor of Montevideo, (Uruguay); and Mauricio Valenzuela, manager of Urban Cleaning at Santiago Town Hall (Chile). The mayor of Matar\u00f3 and president of the Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment (CTRSUM), David Bote, will host the event.<\/p>\n
Together with important political representatives, key authorities in Latin American waste management will also be attending. Noteworthy attendees include: Ricardo Bertolino, director of the local adaptation to climate change programme from the Argentinian network of Municipalities Addressing Climate Change; Giovanni Jemi M\u00e9ndez, manager of the municipal waste company in La Paz (Bolivia), Nohra Padilla, president of the Colombian National Association of Recyclers and winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize; and Alida Spadafora, who runs the programme “Zero Rubbish” in the city of Panama.<\/p>\n
The International Seminar of the Latin American Network of Solid Waste Managers, RELAGRES, is confirmed as the most important event that a Latin American delegation of public decision-makers on waste management has ever held in Europe. Relagres comes to Matar\u00f3 thanks to the work of the Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment, in collaboration with the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Catalan Waste Agency, with technical collaboration from the Environmental Forum Foundation.<\/p>\n
Among the speakers, organisations of global relevance stand out, such as the Inter-American Development Bank (BID), the European Commission and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), as well as other major players in the waste management field of Latin America and Europe. <\/p>\n
