Last Monday 13th November, the director of the Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment, Carles Salesa, moderated one of the round tables at the 3rd edition of the conference \u201cMunicipalities and waste management\u201d, organised by Barcelona Provincial Council and the Environmental Forum. The event took place at the Francesca Bonnemaison venue in Barcelona. Salesa participated in the session \u201cSelective collection, under debate\u201d, together with Frederic Puig, manager of Spora Environmental Services, Jos\u00e9 Sim\u00f3, director of the area of municipal waste at the Catalan Waste Agency and Ignasi Puig, in charge of projects for ENT Environment and Management.<\/p>\n
In this debate it was agreed that, despite some disadvantages, door-to-door selective collection is the only model that appears to meet the environmental objectives set by the European authorities for 2020. In this respect, door-to-door selective collection facilitates the pay-as-you-throw scheme and produces better results for separation at source.<\/p>\n
The talk also emphasised some elements which are basic in the development of selective collection, such as discounts in municipal taxes, the majority of which are currently socially rather than environmentally motivated, and the need to effectively inform citizens about the results obtained thanks to their waste selection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
