This is in accordance with the order which recommends that waste contaminated or supposedly contaminated by COVID19 is preferably incinerated, and that infectious sanitary waste which cannot be treated in the usual installations must be incinerated if required by the relevant authority, in this case the Catalan Government. Depending on the evolution of the pandemic and lockdown, the authorities are not ruling out the possibility that more hospitals will have to divert their waste to the Matar\u00f3 plant.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from these special services, the plant is working at full capacity to guarantee the correct management of municipal waste from the Maresme and Vall\u00e8s Oriental, the areas it usually serves, both with the pre-treatment and waste-to-energy plants. A few days ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wSPak7rLV-k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the President of the Consortium, David Bote, sent a message to the staff at the plant, thanking them for their dedication and extra effort<\/a>, given the exceptional circumstances.<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8GjKiQzIjxM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> The manager of the Consortium, Carles Salesa, has also explained on Matar\u00f3 Audiovisual the management of waste at this unusual time.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The exceptional situation with regards to the management of sanitary waste underlines the real necessity for a secure waste treatment system such as the one offered by the waste-to-energy plants in the region, including the Matar\u00f3 plant, in a moment when there is an open political debate about the continuity of this type of installation in Catalonia.<\/p>\n<p>The list of hospitals which is currently sending its waste to the Matar\u00f3 plant is the
