Architectures for a planet in transition\u2019<\/strong>, the congress, organised by the International Union of Architects (UIA), will bring together more than <strong>10,000 professionals<\/strong> and around <strong>250 speakers<\/strong> from across the globe in Barcelona from 28th June to 2nd July, with a programme featuring over a hundred sessions, with the aim of becoming a global reference point for imagining new futures for architecture.<\/p>\n<p>A few days before, the programme will kick off with a wide range of architectural tours, curated by architects <strong>Aureli Mora and Omar Ornaque<\/strong>, which will enable international participants to experience first-hand projects and initiatives that stand out for their ability to address the challenges of ecological transition, sustainability and territorial transformation.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the Matar\u00f3-Maresme Circular Park has been selected to form part of the <strong>guided tours<\/strong> along the Matar\u00f3-Blanes Route, taking place on 25 June, which will also include stops at Matar\u00f3 Panoptic Prison, the Alta Alella Wine Tourism Centre and the Enric Miralles Library in Palafolls, among others.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10553 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01-1024x573.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01-1024x573.png 1024w, https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01-768x430.png 768w, https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01-1536x860.png 1536w, https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01-680x381.png 680w, https:\/\/maresmecircular.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Render-Parc-Circular_01.png 2044w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Matar\u00f3-Maresme Circular Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Driven by <strong>Maresme Circular<\/strong>, the Matar\u00f3-Maresme Circular Park is located in the <strong>Mata-Rocafonda industrial estate in Matar\u00f3<\/strong> and is designed as a space that promotes an alternative approach to <strong>resource management<\/strong>, based on <strong>reuse<\/strong>, waste <strong>prevention<\/strong> and <strong>extending the useful life<\/strong> of products.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of the project, with construction due to be completed between late 2026 and early 2027, will house the <strong>Espai Refer<\/strong> (Re-make Space), a facility open to the whole region that will offer free services to the public, such as advice on <strong>DIY<\/strong> repairs in various areas (computers and electronic devices, carpentry and furniture, bicycles, textiles, home DIY, etc.), a \u2018<strong>Library of Things<\/strong>\u2019 where items for occasional use can be borrowed, a loan service for <strong>reusable tableware<\/strong> for all kinds of parties and events, <strong>cooking workshops<\/strong> to <strong>prevent food waste<\/strong>, a large <strong>second-hand shop<\/strong> and an <strong>agri-food workshop<\/strong> to process and add value to surplus produce from the region\u2019s farmers, among other initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase also includes a <strong>bulky waste treatment<\/strong> area linked to door-to-door collection to maximise its recovery potential. The second phase of the Park will focus on more technological and industrial activities, driven by the private sector.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sustainable and circular construction<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The building\u2019s design, by <strong>Juli\u00e0 Arquitectes Associats (JAAS)<\/strong>, incorporates <strong>passive design <\/strong>strategies to <strong>reduce energy consumption<\/strong>, such as optimal orientation, natural cross-ventilation, natural lighting and solar shading systems, and integrates <strong>renewable energy<\/strong> through photovoltaic panels on the roof and solar systems for thermal energy production, which cover a significant proportion of the facility\u2019s low energy demand.<\/p>\n<p>From a construction perspective, the project prioritises the extensive use of <strong>structural timber<\/strong> and other <strong>materials from renewable sources<\/strong>, significantly reducing the carbon footprint compared with conventional systems.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, <strong>dry construction techniques<\/strong> have been employed to reduce water consumption, reduce construction times, minimise waste generation and improve the precision and quality of the construction process. These solutions also facilitate the selective dismantling of the building, <strong>promoting the reuse of components and the future adaptability of the spaces.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The project also incorporates <strong>circularity criteria<\/strong> in the selection of materials, prioritising those that are <strong>recycled, recyclable or have a low environmental impact<\/strong>, as well as the <strong>reuse of materials<\/strong> already present on the site, such as aggregates derived from former industrial waste.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11303
